The states below offer additional scholarship funding through state-sponsored essay contests.
All state winners are still eligible to enter AFSA National Scholarship Contests. Entry into one of the AFSA National Scholarship Contests is separate from a state contest and requires a completed entry on this website. Click on the "Home" link at the top of this page for information on entering one of the AFSA National Scholarship Contests.
One first place winner from each state essay contest affiliated with the AFSA Scholarship contest will receive a $1,000 scholarship award from AFSA's National High School Scholarship Contest.

A Virginia senior can win 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of $500, $750 and $1,500. Up to three Honorable Mention prizes of $100 each may be given away.
